I was born in Minneapolis and raised in Bloomington, one of 6 children of Bert and Estelle Cola. I graduated from Bloomington Lincoln High School in 1980, went to Brown Institute, and entered the world of radio. I came to Q102 in 1990, then left to work for 4 years in Sioux Falls SD, but came back to assume the post of News Director in 1998. My wife Sharon works in the nursing department at Ridgewater College and I have two sons, Tony, who goes to Mankato State, and Mike who goes to Willmar High School. Outside the station I like skiing, biking, acting at the Barn Theater and getting involved at St. Mary's Church. Go Twins!
If you weren't in radio what would you be doing?
I'd like to make a living either writing or as a private investigator.
What event led you to pursue a career in radio?
When I was 11 I got a tape recorder for Christmas and started recording my own little radio shows with a record player and forced my little brother and friends to be my guests on interview and phone-in programs and contests. I was probably a goner by then.
What are your hobbies?
Riding my recumbent bike, bowling, skiing, acting at the Barn Theater, and following the Twins and Vikings.

What is your most prized possession?
From a functional standpoint, probably my Rans Rocket recumbent bike…many other sentimental items too numerous to mention…like drawings from my children.
What was your first job?
Paperboy for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
What do you like most about your job?
The freedom to pursue the stories I want and interacting with other people and officials.
Who do you admire most?
Jesus
What nursery rhyme best describes you?
Humpty Dumpty…he's bald and accident prone, like me.
