A group of Tiger Cubs and parents were given a tour and program of BOLD Broadcasting Company by Chuck Blum. Chuck’s program consisted of explaining how radio works, jobs in radio, production of short messages in the studio and questions.

BOLD Schools After School program were given a program of the BOLD Broadcasting Company by Chuck Blum. The 14 students learned about careers in radio, the history of KOLV, ethics of broadcasting and production of short
recording to learn about how ads are produced.

Jena Hillenbrand, Art Cruze and Mike Miller provided a tour to 30 students and parents from the Willmar Area Schools at Home group. The group spent time in production seeing how commercials and promotional audio was created, time with on air staff and studios and with the news room.

Lakeland Broadcasting aired public service announcements for the International Broadcasters Idea Bank Sesac Radio Scholarship. The scholarship was for College students in their second or third year and would graduate with a degree leading to a career in radio, communications, journalism or advertising.

Gave a tour to Cub Scout Den 6 from New London. Bev Davis provided the tour of the production rooms and commercials and audio were created. Time was spend in the studios and the scouts were shown how the on air
programming works.

Lakeland Broadcasting aired public service announcements for the Minnesota Broadcasters Association’s James Wychor Scholarship. The scholarship was for students interested in a career in radio or television broadcasting. Scholarship information and application was posted on Lakeland Broadcasting websites.

The Willmar Business Group was given a tour of Lakeland Broadcasting. Steve Linder gave them a brief history of our stations. A tour of the different departments and how each function was given by Jena Hillenbrand, Chris Davis, Tim Burns and MaryElin Miller.

Cub Scout Pack from Hector was provided a tour and program to 13 scouts and nine parents at BOLD Broadcasting. Chuck Blum conducted the tour. The program included the history of the stations and jobs in radio. The group was
shown how radio works, and how production and audio promos are created.

Jena Hillenbrand and Tim Burns provided the Ridgewater College Business Class with a presentation about radio sales and creative radio ads. Jena talked about her day to day duties. Tim explained what it takes to make a great and effective radio commercial. The class asked if they would judge radio commercials for their “mock” business. On April 17th, seven ads were given to Jena and Ben Tessmer to be evaluated by five different area.

A Willmar High School student did a “job shadow”. Her time was spent with Ben Tessmer on Q102. She was introduced to music scheduling, jobs in radio; both behind the scenes and on air, what a typical day entails and misconceptions of the job.

A freshman at South Dakato State University did a “job shadow”. She spent time with the Q102 morning show and was even a part of the broadcast several times. She also sat in on the KWLM morning show during an interview with jazz artist Nancy Harms. Time was also spend with JP Cola in the news department and learned about productions of commercials, music scheduling, sales and
other jobs in radio.

A junior at MACCRAY High School did a “job shadow”. He sat in with Q102 morning show. He learned about the news department from JP Cola. Bob Thompson showed him production and the creating of commercials. MaryElin Macht visited with him about music scheduling and other jobs in radio. Art Cruze introduced him to sales and how radio sales work.

The Leadership Perspective group from Willmar toured the Lakeland Broadcasting Company facilities. 40 people spent time learning how the production and commercials and promotional audio are created; time in our on-air studios to find out about how on air programming works and with news director, J P Cola, learning how news is gathered and determined what is aired. Mike Miller, Paul Cool, Art Cruze from sales; Paul Stagg, MaryElin Macht and Ben Taylor from the on-air staff conducted the tour.
